Ball Will Wear Shock Doctor's Innovative, Performance-Driven Protective Gear and Serve as Product Development Advisor
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., August 25, 2011 - Shock Doctor® – the authentic market leader and creators of innovative, unique performance-driven sports protection and the undisputed leader in mouthguard technology – announced today that Australian Football League (AFL) Collingwood Football Club star midfielder Luke Ball will join its Team Shock Doctor, an elite group of athletes who use Shock Doctor sports protective gear. Ball will have access to wear the full line of Shock Doctor’s performance-driven superior mouthguards during practices and while competing on the football field. He will also serve as an advisor, working with Shock Doctor’s research and development team, to provide feedback from his experiences as a pro competitor using Shock Doctor products.
Ball joins a growing roster of pro athletes worldwide who have discovered that Shock Doctor’s revolutionary products are proving to be vital for better training and improved performance. From AFL and NFL football players to NHL hockey players, from MLB players to NCAA football, hockey and lacrosse teams, athletes who want superior sports protection combined with performance enhancement are using Shock Doctor products ranging from mouthguards to base layer protection apparel. “Shock Doctor sells its world-class sports protective gear to athletes in more than 50 countries around the world including Australia,” said Tony Armand, CEO of Shock Doctor. “We are excited about working with such a world-class athlete as Luke. Our partnership will help us let other athletes learn about the importance of high quality sports protection and know that our products are available to them whether they live in the U.S., Australia, or elsewhere.”
“Shock Doctor has such a great reputation built over many years,” said Ball. “I remember wearing a Shock Doctor mouthguard throughout my junior footy (football) career. They make great fitting mouthguards with super protection. It’s crucial to be properly prepared. Apart from boots, a mouthguard is an AFL footballer’s only other piece of equipment, and your front teeth don’t repair themselves like a hamstring, so you need to ‘invest in the best’ – for me that’s an easy choice, Shock Doctor.”
Ball has been playing on the Collingwood team since November 26, 2009 when he was drafted to Colliingwood with their first pick (number 30 overall). He began his AFL career with St. Kilda in 2003. His most recent career highlights include playing in the 2010 AFL Grand Final and winning the AFL premiership when he and his Collingwood teammates defeated their opponent, St. Kilda, by 56 points, marking Collingwood’s 15th VFL/AFL (Victorian League Football/Australian League Football) premiership. He has received extensive awards such as the All-Australian 2005, International Rules Series 2004, NAB AFL Rising Star nominee 2003, and pre-season premiership side 2004. His team, nicknamed The Magpies after the native Australian bird, is the biggest and most supported club in Australia.
“Luke clearly understands the importance of wearing best-in-class sports protection such as our mouthguards and will be reinforcing that athletes of all abilities need to do so as well,” said Jay Turkbas, Senior Vice President of Product Development and Marketing for Shock Doctor. “As an athlete advisor he will be giving us feedback so that we can continue to develop high quality products that protect athletes while enabling them to concentrate on their performance.”
As an expert in mouthguard science, performance and safety, Shock Doctor represents 90 percent dollar share of the mouthguard category at sports retailers (Source: SportsScanINFO - Sports Retailers 52 Weeks Ending 5.22.2011.) The company designs and produces the most comfortable, ultra protective mouthguards available, keeping the focus on playing a sport, not wearing a mouthguard. Some models of Shock Doctor mouthguards use Shock Doctor’s exclusive MORA (Mandibular Orthopedic Repositioning Appliance) performance enhancement technology to position the lower jaw down and forward to allow optimal muscular function of head and neck muscles. This has been shown in independent studies to translate to an increase in overall muscular strength and improved athletic performance. Ball will be able to choose from an array of Shock Doctor’s top-quality mouthguards, including the new Nano 3D Mouthguard with the ultimate self-fit and the Custom Mouthguard with its custom quality fit designed and individually made for each athlete in the exclusive Shock Doctor Dental Lab. All Shock Doctor mouthguards are designed to stay firmly and comfortably in place, making it easier to breathe, speak and focus on the game.
Shock Doctor is known as the undisputed leader in mouthguard technology and considered the leading innovator in sports protection around the globe. Their belief in combining design and technology to achieve better protection and performance is now trusted by fearless athletes in a growing number of products and sports, from youth to amateur to pro.
